Our mission
India has strong labour protections on paper. Our mission is the distance between that paper and a worker in a kiln yard who has not been paid for four months.
The problem we exist for
A worker owed four months of wages has a clear legal remedy. Exercising it requires knowing the remedy exists, having documentation, reaching a labour office during working hours, and being able to lose a day's pay to do it — while still living in housing the employer controls.
Each of those is a small obstacle. Together they are the reason enforcement fails. Our mission is to remove them one at a time, for one worker at a time, and to record what we learn so the obstacle is removed for everyone next time.
Our mandate
These are operational, not aspirational — each one corresponds to a team, a budget line and a number we report against.
Identify and act on bonded labour, child labour and trafficking — coordinating rescue with district administrations and ensuring every released worker leaves with the release certificate that makes their freedom legally real.
File wage recovery claims, criminal complaints and RTI applications. The Minimum Wages Act and the Bonded Labour System (Abolition) Act are strong laws; our work is making them operative for people who cannot reach a courtroom alone.
e-Shram registration, pensions, ration access, health referrals, compensation schemes and the statutory rehabilitation grant — benefits workers already qualify for and are rarely told about.
Worker committees, trained paralegals, women’s collectives and youth groups, so the next violation meets an organised community rather than an isolated individual.
Field records kept to a standard that survives a courtroom and a ministry submission. Casework without documentation helps one family; documented casework changes a district.
Skills training, self-help groups and livelihood support, because a family that still needs the advance will take the advance again.
How we measure it
Every programme reports against outcomes, not activity. A training session attended is not an outcome; a wage recovered is.
