Privacy policy
Last updated 1 July 2026
1. Data we collect
We collect identity, contact and case details from complainants, workers, volunteers, donors and job applicants. Field records may include photographs, wage documentation and family composition where required to establish a case of bonded or forced labour.
2. Survivor confidentiality
Cases involving children, trafficking or ongoing prosecution are marked Restricted. Identifying data in Restricted cases is masked inside our systems and accessible only to the assigned case officer, the legal lead and the executive director. Restricted case data is never used in public communication.
3. Lawful basis and consent
We record informed consent — verbal consent is documented where a person cannot read or sign. Consent may be withdrawn at any time, except where retention is mandated by a court or statutory authority.
4. Sharing with authorities
We share case information with District Magistrates, Legal Services Authorities and labour departments strictly to the extent necessary to secure release, wage recovery or entitlements. We do not sell or rent data to any third party.
5. Donor and financial data
Payment details are processed by regulated payment partners; we do not store card numbers. We retain donation records for eight years as required under Indian tax and FCRA compliance.
6. Retention
Active case records are retained through the two-year rehabilitation follow-up and for seven years thereafter for legal audit. Anonymous reports are retained without identifiers indefinitely for research aggregation.
7. Security
Access is role-based and logged. Field devices are encrypted, and physical files are held in locked district offices. Any suspected breach is reported to affected individuals and the board within 72 hours.
8. Your rights
You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data by writing to privacy@mehnatkash.org. We respond within 30 days.
